Data Migration & Recovery
User-state and data migration during refresh cycles, plus recovery attempts on failing media. We verify integrity on both ends of every transfer and document what moved, so nothing is discovered missing three weeks later.

Scope
One unit, or the whole fleet
Data moves are judged entirely on what is missing afterwards, and what is missing is never the documents folder. It is the mail archive nobody knew was local, the licence key tied to the old machine, the mapped drive that was in a startup script, the browser profile with fifteen saved logins. A migration that copied every file and none of that is a migration the user experiences as a loss.
- 01
One machine
A failing drive or a replacement laptop. Usually same-day, and the old disk is kept intact until you confirm the new one is right.
- 02
Two to fifty machines
A department moved on a schedule, staged so nobody is without a machine during their working day.
- 03
A fleet refresh or a server move
Run alongside a hardware refresh or a floor migration, with a validation pass per user rather than a sign-off on the batch.
How it runs
In the order the work happens
The sequence matters more than the list. Most of what goes wrong on these jobs traces back to a step skipped early rather than to the work itself.
- 01
Establish what is actually on there
Before anything is copied: user profiles, local mail stores, application data, licences and activation state, mapped drives, printers, browser profiles and certificates. Most of what gets lost is lost here rather than in the copy.
- 02
Image first when the drive is unhealthy
A failing disk gets one good read, and it is not worth spending it on a file-by-file copy. We take a full image first and work from that, so a drive that dies mid-job has not taken the data with it.
- 03
Migrate, then verify against the original
File counts and sizes reconciled, mail opened, applications launched and signed into, drives and printers reconnected. Verification is against the source rather than against a log that says the copy finished.
- 04
Hold the old machine until you say so
The original is kept intact and untouched until you confirm the new one is right. Only then is it wiped, and you get the record of that.
What you get
What is actually delivered
- User profile and application state migration
- Failing drive imaging and recovery attempt
- Mailbox and file share cutover support
- Checksum verification on both ends
- Written manifest of migrated data
Not this
What we do not do here
Stating this is what makes the rest of the page worth believing, and it saves you a call that was never going to end in work.
- Forensic recovery for legal proceedings. We recover data; we do not produce evidence to an evidentiary standard.
- Physically damaged platters needing a clean room. We will tell you quickly if that is what you have, and who to send it to.
- Cloud tenant-to-tenant migrations, which are a licensing and identity project rather than a field one.
Questions
Before you call
- The drive is making a noise. Should I keep trying to boot it?
- No. Every boot attempt is another read on a disk that has a limited number left, and a clicking drive is one already failing mechanically. Power it down and leave it down. The first thing we do is image it, and that is a great deal easier before it has been retried twenty times.
- Can you get everything back?
- Sometimes, and we will not tell you which until we have looked. What we will do is say honestly what came back and what did not, rather than presenting a partial recovery as a complete one.
- How long do you keep the old drive?
- Until you tell us the new machine is right. Wiping the source before the destination is confirmed is the one irreversible mistake available in this work, so we do not make it on our own schedule.
