Terms of service
What we commit to, what we do not, and where the free tools stop being advice. Written to be read rather than to be hidden behind.
Who these terms are with
This site and the services described on it are provided by JCIT Systems LLC (“JCIT”, “we”, “us”), a limited liability company operating in the New York metropolitan area.
Using this website, one of the free tools, or engaging us for work means you accept these terms. If you are agreeing on behalf of a company, you are confirming you are allowed to.
What these terms cover
Four different things live under this domain, and they are not all the same deal:
- This website, including the guides and reference material.
- The free tools — the calculators, the diagnostics, and the developer tools. Free, no account, and covered by the section on them below.
- Field and IT services performed for you under a written estimate.
- Our own software products, each of which has its own terms on its own site. Nothing here overrides those.
The free tools and guides
The tools and guides are published free, with no account and no obligation, because they are useful. They are reference material, not professional advice for your specific situation, and they come with no warranty of any kind.
This matters more here than it would on most sites. Some of this material touches work that is genuinely dangerous or is governed by code — power, grounding and bonding, cable in plenum spaces, rack loading, mains-adjacent equipment. A calculator gives you a number from the inputs you typed; it has not seen your site, your local code, or the state of your building.
Verify anything load-bearing against the manufacturer’s documentation, the applicable standard, and a licensed professional in the relevant trade before you act on it. Electrical work in particular is licensed work in New York, and nothing on this site is a substitute for an electrician.
You may use the tools for commercial purposes, quote the guides with attribution, and rely on them at your own judgement. You may not scrape them at a volume that degrades the service for others, or republish them wholesale as your own.
Estimates and prices
Diagnostics and estimates are free, and there is no obligation attached to either. Work is quoted to a written scope before it starts, and the price we give you is the price for that scope.
An estimate holds for 30 days. It assumes the site is substantially as described to us — if what we find on arrival is materially different from what was scoped, we will tell you before continuing rather than after, and you can decide whether to proceed at a revised number or stop.
Figures produced by the software estimator on this site are indicative planning numbers rather than offers. A real number follows a conversation.
The no-fix, no-labour-charge commitment
If we come out and cannot resolve the issue we were called for, you are not billed for our labour on that visit. That is a real commitment and it is not hedged into meaninglessness — but it has a scope, and this is it.
It covers our time. It does not cover:
- Parts and materials bought for the job with your approval. If you authorised a replacement part and we ordered it, it is yours whether or not the fault turned out to be elsewhere.
- Work that was completed as scoped. If we did what the estimate described and a different, separate problem remains, the completed work is payable.
- Visits we could not perform. If we cannot get access, the site is not ready, or a third party we depend on has not done their part, that is not an unresolved fault — we will reschedule, and a wasted trip may be chargeable if it was avoidable and we were not told.
- Faults outside our control. A carrier outage, a failure in equipment we did not supply or configure, or a vendor system we have no access to.
“Resolve” means the specific problem in the written scope. If you are unsure whether something falls inside it, ask before we are dispatched rather than after — we would rather have that conversation up front, and it is free.
Work on your premises
You are responsible for giving us safe and timely access to the site, including whatever building approvals, dock bookings, escorts or freight-elevator reservations the location requires. We will tell you what we need and when.
Work is performed by the owner or by a subcontracted technician. Where the work goes through a partner, an integrator, or a service platform, that relationship is with them and their terms apply alongside these.
We work around live infrastructure. Back up anything you cannot afford to lose before we arrive — this is your responsibility, not ours, and it is the single most common preventable loss on this kind of work.
We are not responsible for pre-existing conditions we did not create: undocumented cabling, out-of-code work by others, failing hardware, or a fault that surfaces during otherwise unrelated work because it was already there.
A certificate of general liability insurance is available on request. Send the requirements before you commit to anything and we will confirm what we can meet.
Payment
Invoices are payable net 30 from the invoice date unless the written estimate says otherwise. Remittance details are provided with the invoice.
Projects running longer than a week may be invoiced at milestones, which will be stated in the estimate before work starts. We do not add charges that were not in the scope you approved.
Overdue accounts may be paused until they are settled, and we may decline further work while a balance is outstanding. We would rather talk about it — if there is a problem with an invoice, tell us and we will look at it.
Scheduling and cancellation
Dispatch timing depends on the service area and the day. Where we publish a same-day window, it applies when the request arrives with working hours left in it; some areas are scheduled or batched rather than same-day, and the page for that area says so.
Cancel or reschedule as far ahead as you can. A visit cancelled after a technician has been dispatched, or an appointment nobody can get access for, may be chargeable — we apply this sparingly and not at all where you told us in reasonable time.
What you submit
Anything you paste into a browser-based tool stays in your browser and is not transmitted to us. The three tools that use a server route say so on the page.
Files you attach to a request are used to carry out that request. Do not send us credentials, and redact anything sensitive that is not needed for the work.
Reviews are published. If you submit one, the text, your name and your company appear publicly on this site. Do not put anything in a review that you would not want public. You keep ownership of what you write; you are giving us permission to display it, and you can ask us to remove it at any time.
Do not submit anything unlawful, anything that is not yours to send, or anything designed to break the service. We may remove content and decline service.
Our content
The guides, tools, drawings, diagrams and text on this site belong to us. You may read them, use the tools, print a guide for a job, and quote from them with attribution and a link. You may not republish them wholesale, resell them, or present them as your own work.
Some pages link to equipment we use. Where a link earns us a commission, that is disclosed on the page carrying it. It does not change what we recommend, and it costs you nothing.
Availability of this site
We do not guarantee that this website or the free tools will be available without interruption. They are provided as they are, and we may change or withdraw any of them. Nothing here is a service-level commitment. Where you have one, it lives in your written agreement with us rather than on this page.
Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, our total liability arising out of any engagement is limited to the amount you paid us for the work the claim relates to.
We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss — lost profit, lost business, lost data, or downtime — arising from the services, the website, or the free tools. The tools and guides in particular are published free and without warranty, and we accept no liability for decisions made on the strength of them.
Nothing in these terms limits liability for anything that cannot lawfully be limited, including death or personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, and any dispute will be heard in the state or federal courts located in New York. If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest stands.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. Changes are posted on this page with an updated revision date, and the terms that apply to a piece of work are the ones in force when the estimate was accepted.
