What this looks like at your scale

Cable is the part of an installation nobody sees and everybody inherits. A run that was pulled quickly and labelled never is a run that costs an hour of tracing every time something moves, and a closet with no documentation is one where the safe move is always to change nothing. The work is cheap to do properly on the day and expensive to correct afterwards, which is exactly the shape of problem that gets deferred.

  1. 01

    A handful of drops

    Adding positions to an existing floor, or running to a new camera, access point or printer. Half a day to a day.

  2. 02

    A floor fit-out

    Fifty to three hundred drops with a patch field, pathway, and a labelling scheme applied from the first run rather than retrofitted at the end.

  3. 03

    A backbone or a closet rebuild

    Riser and inter-closet links, fibre where the distance calls for it, and an existing closet dressed and documented back into a state somebody can work in.

How it runs

In the order the work happens

The sequence matters more than the list. Most of what goes wrong on these jobs traces back to a step skipped early rather than to the work itself.

  1. 01

    Walk the pathway first

    Where the cable can legally and physically go, what the ceiling is, whether the space is a plenum, and what it shares a tray with. Plenum-rated cable in a return-air space is code, not preference, and it is not a thing to discover after the pull.

  2. 02

    Pull to standard, not to the shortest line

    Bend radius respected, separation kept from fluorescent ballasts and power, lengths inside the channel limit. Most certification failures are decided during the pull rather than at the termination.

  3. 03

    Terminate, label, and test

    Terminations to T568A or B — consistently, whichever the building already uses — labelled to a scheme at both ends, and tested. Certification to a printed report where the job calls for it.

  4. 04

    Leave a closet somebody can read

    Dressed, combed, and documented: a patch schedule that matches the labels, and a photograph of the finished field. The test is whether a stranger can trace a port without a toner.

Stating this is what makes the rest of the page worth believing, and it saves you a call that was never going to end in work.

  • Line-voltage electrical work. Anything on the mains side is a licensed electrician's job in New York and we do not touch it.
  • Core drilling and firestopping through rated assemblies, which we coordinate rather than perform.
  • Asbestos or anything else in a ceiling that needs abatement — we stop and tell you.

Questions

Before you call

Cat6 or Cat6A?
Cat6 is fine for gigabit at normal floor distances. Cat6A is worth it where you are running multi-gig now, powering high-draw PoE devices over long runs, or you would rather not repull in five years. We will say which applies to your building rather than defaulting to the more expensive one.
Do you certify the runs?
On request, with a printed report per drop. A wire-map test proves the pins are right; certification proves the channel meets the standard, and it is what a fit-out handover usually wants.
Can you work around our existing mess?
Yes, and we will tell you honestly whether adding to it or rebuilding it is cheaper over the next two years. Sometimes the right answer is that a closet is beyond tidying.
